The Ahlul Bayt (as) have informed us about the creation of the mind and the ignorance in a lenghty hadith. (Al-Kafi, vol 1, p.20, "The Book of the Mind and Ignorance", narration 14)

They taught us, that God gave the mind 75 soldiers and ignorance 75 soldiers. Only by recognizing the mind and it's soldiers and avoiding ignorance and it's soldiers one reaches the higher levels of faith like the prophets and messengers.

If one defeats the ego and conquers himsself he reaches the seventh sky - the sky of the mind – and his mind will be completed.

It is narrated from Sheikh al-Kulayni in (Al-Kafi) from several of our companions, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from Ali ibn Hadid, from Suma’a ibn Mihran that he said:

"With a gathering of his followers I was in the presence of Imam Abi Abdallah (as). A discussion on the mind and ignorance started among them. Thereupon Imam abu ‘Abdallah said, “Know the Mind and its soldiers, and know the Ignorance and its soldiers, so that you become guided" So Sama’a said, “May my soul be in your sacrifice, we only know what you taught us” Abu Abdullah pbuh said, “Allah swt created the Mind from His light, and he is the first creation of Allah swt from the spirituals on the right of the Throne. He swt said to it, “Walk away,” so it walked away, and He then told it, “Come forth,” so it came forth, so He swt said, “I have created you a great creation, and I favored you over all My creation.” He swt then created Ignorance, from the dark dark brine sea. He told it, “Walk away,” so it walked away, and He then told it, “Come forth,” so it did not come forth. He swt said to it, “Have you had too much pride?” so He swt cursed it. He then made seventy-five soldiers for the Mind, so when the Ignorance saw what Allah has bestowed upon the Mind from His generosity, and what He has given it, the Ignorance hid his animosity for it and said, “O Lord, this is a creation like myself, You created it, favored and strengthened it, and I am his opposite, and I have no strength against it so give me from the soldiers like You have given it, so He swt said, “Yes. So if you disobey after that, I will expel you and your soldiers from My mercy.” It[the ignorance] said, “I am satisfied” So He gave him seventy-five soldiers.

So these were from what He has given the Mind from the seventy-five soldiers… (enumeration of the soldiers see below).

So all these characteristics from the soldiers of the Mind do not all gather except within a Prophet or a Prophet's vicegerent, or a believer whose heart was tested by Allah for faith. As for our supporters, one of them would not be free from having some of these soldiers within him until he [attains the rest] and purifies [himself ] from the soldiers of ignorance, so then he reaches the higher level with the prophets and vicegerents (meaning if his Mind became complete he would be from the people of the seventh sky, which is the sky of Mind). He realizes this by recognizing the Mind and it's soldiers, and by avoiding Ignorance and it's soldiers. May Allah grant us success, you and us, in obeying and pleasing Him.” – Al-Kafi Vol. 1 page 20, “The book of Mind and Ignorance,” narration 14
